Outdoor Adventures

This weekend was Patrick's second annual trip for the first day of trout season in Pennsylvania. Though last year was spent at a youth only fishing event, for this years opener Patrick was invited to fish in the big leagues at Uncle Jeff's hunting cabin in Benezette, PA. The trip was shared with Dad, Pap, Uncle Andy, Uncle Jeff and some of Uncle Jeff's friend. This was his first true outdoor adventure and he was quite the trooper by all accounts. He fearlessly waded streams, tromped through the woods, and didn't make a big deal about falling back into the creek and getting all wet. I know he impressed me by how well behaved while he was among so many adults, how well he ate camping food and how much he enjoyed just being there never once asking abut a Wii, TV, computer or expressing his most common complainy about there being nothing to do.

Pap and Patrick with one of Pap's catches.

Our little fishermen reeling in a cast while braving the cold waters from a midstream rock.

Not only did Patrick have a great time fishing despite not catching a single fish on his own, but he clearly enjoyed all of the scenery and wildlife we saw while driving to the cabin and while we were out driving to and from the streams we wound up fishing in this weekend. Below is one of the Bull Elk we saw on saturday afternoon.

Hi Patrick. How lucky that you have a Dad who loves fishing and hunting. You will always be at home in the woods and with nature. Unfortunately, Poppy never had a chance to do hunting and fishing so your Dad always went with friends. For me, nature is the back yard where Nanny and Poppy have continued to add trees, flowers and bird feeders. We are excited because our apple trees are just started to bud. The biggest apple tree is literally covered with apple buds. I just hope the good Lord will send some bees to turn them into delicious apples. We took down one of the big apple trees because I could not spray it to take care of it. The I was lucky enough to find three smaller trees which are also starting to open buds. Now we just have to find a way to keep the squirrels and chipmunks out of the trees. They used to bite all the apples in the tree we cut down. Maybe I need to borrow Shelby from Aunt Liz. I'm sure she would have a good time eating those chipmunks and squirrels. Nanny and Poppy hope we will be able to see you soon. Love, Nanny and Poppy
