First Day of Tee Ball
Today was a big day for Patrick, it was his first day of Tee Ball. While we refer to it as Baseball he is quick to correct us that no it is not Baseball but Tee Ball. He seems very keen on the idea of playing Tee Ball which is exciting for us. Considering that by the end of his first season of Football he had sworn off team sports and said he was sticking to Tae Kwon Do. While he is doing well with Tae Kwon Do and recently competed in his second tournament we are pleased that he is giving team sports another try. While he often had to be coaxed outside to practice for Football not a day goes by when I get home from work when he doesn't want to head outside to throw the ball around and practice which I find a refreshing change. Yesterday while we were practicing a grounder bounced up and cracked him on the shin. This of course lead to a quivering lip and tears welling up in his little eyes. I was quick to break out my version of Tom Hank's 'there no crying in Basesball' speech. Within a few moments he had fought off the tears and was pracitcing his base running skills. Needless to say he is really enjoying himself. As a friend of the coach by the end of practice today I found that I was now an Assistant Coach. I'm just hoping to be able to spend some more quality time with him and stay out of the way while the people who really know what they are doing educate him in the art of Tee Ball.
